PROFESSIONAL LEARNING

ABOUT

Our understanding of teaching as an innovative design process shapes the work we do with teachers. Professional learning has traditionally been viewed as originating from top down mandates that minimally fulfill compliance and accountability requirements. Our approach is to center PK-12 teachers as autonomous learners, experiencing the same phenomena, activities, and processes as their students. By positioning them as co-designers of learning experiences for themselves and the students they serve, teachers can experience deep and lasting growth as professionals and improve educational outcomes for all students.

  • “The AIMS Center has instilled a love for learning math through fun and hands-on exploration. Teachers have expressed an interest in math professional development and have introduced math all around their classrooms!"

  • “We have been impressed with the level of professionalism and coaching support that we have received from AIMS staff and coaches. We have enjoyed the Community of Practices and the monthly coaching sessions. The time we spent on these meetings has been an opportunity to stay connected, continue learning, and improve in our individual coaching needs.”

Coaching

Personalized Support for Educators

Coaching visits focus on observation and feedback to support lesson planning, organizing curricular activities, adapting to children’s understandings, and formative assessment strategies.

Co-designed STEAM Activity Implementation

From Concept to Classroom

We help co-design, plan, and implement a classroom STEAM learning experience for classrooms. Support includes a co-design and planning meeting, materials to support student engagement, and co-facilitation along with your staff.

Specialized Facilitation

Supporting Coding Clubs

We collaborate with Coding Club teachers to provide professional learning and support focused on micro:bit exploration. These sessions build community among teachers, give them the opportunity to unbox and explore the micro:bit hardware, and introduce the various challenges to extend participant learning.
